Posted by: Rate It Green Team
Rate It Green Member ZeroEnergy Design has been awarded the 2017 Award for Best Energy-Smart Home, along with Thoughtforms Corpporation, for a Net Positive Farmhouse in Lincoln, Massachusetts. The Award is presented by Fine Homebuilding and Taunton Press for excellence in six building, design, and performance related categories.
The Lincoln Net Positive Farmhouse shows that you can really have it all, consuming 70% less energy than a typical code-built home and even generating 48% more energy annually than it consumes, while looking great. In addition to high energy efficiency, the home showcases indoor air quality, water efficiency, comfort, and long-term resilience features. A 13.8 solar panel array and an energy management system assist the homeowners in saving and producing energy, and in monitoring consumption.
Additional features include:
-Thick super-insulated walls and roof
-Continuous air barrier
-Triple-glazed windows
-Air source heat pump
-Heat pump hot water heater
-Energy recovery ventilator
-Energy Star appliances
-Induction cooking
According to ZeroEnergy Design Managing Director Stephanie Horowitz, "The project is a successful example of a traditional farmhouse aesthetic, paired seamlessly with high-performance design, details and execution. It is a result of an ideal collaboration between the owner, architect, and builder."
