Free Webinar: Heat Pumps for Architects and Designers of Commercial Buildings, March 27
Event Description

Heat pumps are an integral technology to achieving deep decarbonization in both new and existing buildings. However, there are many types and applications for heat pumps that have different considerations. In this class, we will review why heat pumps are a critical decarbonization element, including emissions comparisons across different technologies. We will provide an overview of the basics of heat pump technologies (including types and sources/sinks) and architectural considerations for both new and existing buildings. We will discuss the importance of leveraging integrated design strategies to optimize heat pump selection and minimize operational carbon emissions and on-going utility costs. Finally, we will provide project examples of heat pumps in commercial buildings.

The objective of this course is that at the conclusion, participants will be able to:

  • Explain the importance of heat pumps as a critical electrification and decarbonization strategy
  • Describe heat pump basics, including types, sources/sinks, and applications
  • Discuss the importance of integrated design to achieve cost effective, high performance and low carbon heat pump installations
  • Summarize architectural implications of heat pumps, including space requirements and location constraints
