Event Description
Examines how electrification will increasingly be a part of a building operator’s roles and responsibilities. Provides an overview of the fundamentals of electrification technologies, including implementation benefits and barriers, as well as maintenance and troubleshooting. Reviews applicable standards and incentives that will move buildings away from the use of fossil fuels and to 100% electric energy sources.
At the completion of BOC 1014, students will:
- Have a fundamental understanding of what electrification signifies, from a technology, environmental, and utility perspective
- Understand how electrification will impact the role of building operators
- Understand the benefits and barriers to electrification
- Know how to maintain and troubleshoot electrification technologies
Target Audience:
Commercial building operators and maintenance staff
Energy managers, resources conservation managers, facility managers
Learning Level:
Intermediate Class: Content is appropriate for individuals who possess a fundamental understanding of the topic and have familiarity with basic terminology and methodology of the subject matter. Attendees should have the capacity to participate in instructor-led exercises requiring synthesis and application of concepts.

Mr. Suleiman has over 30 years of experience as a utility executive, marketing strategist, electrical engineer, and an educator. He founded the Sacramento Municipal Utility District Energy and Technology Center, an education and demonstration regional center on advanced technologies and energy efficiency and served as its director for eight years. He also started the Channel Management group focusing on expanding customer channels and implementing a host of programs and self-service options for the electric utility. He also served as SMUD’s Innovation, business development and technology manager, a customer service strategy group deals with customer communication and transactional channels, business technology and marketing programs and services for conservation, green initiatives, energy efficiency and advanced technologies.
