Free Online Workshop: Evaluating and Selecting Luminaires, July 25, 9am-2:30pm PT
Event Description
LED Luminaires are now the dominate electric light source. As with legacy light sources, their characteristics need to be reviewed and compared to choose the best fixture for an application This newly designed workshop, formatted for on-line presentation, will review lighting concepts including color, glare, and basic lighting terminology and metrics. How to interpret a luminaire specification sheet and document the information required to create a project lighting legend will be explained. The workshop will rap-up with an exercise in selecting the appropriate luminaires for an application and producing a project luminaire schedule.
Learning Outcomes:
• Understand basic lighting terminology and metrics associated with luminaires.
• Explore luminaire properties and derive key information from spec sheets.
• Gain an overview of lighting photometry to better understand a luminaires characteristics and performance.
• Be able to develop a set of lighting specifications with appropriate fixtures and options selected for a specific application.

Learning Level:
Intermediate Class: Content is appropriate for individuals who possess a fundamental understanding of the topic and have familiarity with basic terminology and methodology of the subject matter. Attendees should have the capacity to participate in instructor-led exercises requiring synthesis and application of concepts.
Prerequisite:
None, however, some knowledge and skill relative to lighting applications and/or design will be helpful for attendees to this workshop.
