The impact of green buildings in the Brazilian economy

Green building is gaining space in Brazilian economy, accorded with GBCB (Green Building Council Brazil), sustainable buildings account about 10% of the national construction GDP. This is significant especially since civil construction has an impact corresponding to around 50% of the overall economy.
The reason for the increase in green buildings is the fact people can clearly see the profits of green building investments. The sustainable practices in construction can value the enterprises and materials for investors and service providers. For the consumer the gains are in the savings that the buildings produce over time, in addition to contributions to the environment.
Green building has also increased internationally. Some of the local Brazilian manufactures already export technology to several countries. For instance, Ecotelhado, which is headquartered in Porto Alegre, exports green roofs, vertical gardens, permeable pavements, underground cisterns and solutions for biological treatment of effluents, among others items, to Mexico, Uruguay, Colombia, Chile and Peru.
The influence of green building in Brazil is significant in several ways. Not only does it have positive impact on the economy, but it also points to the consciousness that is being creates around environment protection, as well as the potential for green strategies to improve quality of life.
