Real Estate Professional Course, Build it Green
Event Description

Created for the National Association of Real Estate Brokers (NAREB) Realtists members, this course was created to address helping buyers improve the efficiency of their new home purchased to lower the true cost of home ownership from the start and to help sellers to recoup value for energy efficiency improvements, especially when tied to a green certification label. With a focus on California specific programs and products, this training provides basic to advanced training in green building and sustainable business practices so that participants can seek out, understand, and market properties with green features specific to the needs of their communities. This is the only green certification conferred by NAREB, the leading professional organization for agents and brokers that are members of the largest African-American real estate trade organization. By earning the Certificate of Completion, real estate professionals receive:

  • Information specific to the California low income and disadvantaged community marketplace, including: state and utility rebate programs, green-lending options, and government policy efforts focused on climate change.
  • The best, most relevant information about the industry in this market.
  • Access to a wealth of support collateral, such as customizable green client handouts, videos, and other professional marketing materials.

      Energy: Understand the essentials of conservation, efficiency, and renewable energy as they apply to programs and professionals that help real estate professionals help their clients and community.
      Resource available to the real estate professional: Explore best practices in helping clients make good choices for maximizing energy savings and lowering homeownership costs and increasing home value, increased comfort and creating a healthier environment. Understanding available rebates and incentives.


      Day 2

      Lending programs and products that serve various income type buyers and how some financing may assist low-income buyers and sellers in achieving their goals. Unde¬rstanding the valuation process for this market segment and how to effectively work with Appraisal.
      Developing and marketing a green business real estate practice: Learn how consumer preferences, marketing tools, and effective language can play a role in developing and marketing a green real estate business practice. How certifications and labels available in the marketplace can help, how these vehicles work and who the professionals in the community are that real estate professionals should team with to best serve the need of their clients.

      John is the Senior Director of Southern California & Real Estate Services at Build It Green. He is also a REALTOR® and a National Association of REALTORS® and California Association of REALTORS® Green Designation Trainer. Both companies are well known for their commitment and expertise in Green Real Estate, green education, training, and business development consulting. John is also a California HERS Building Performance Contractor (HERS-BPC); California General Building Contractor; BPI Certified Building Analyst and Envelope Professional and BPI Trainer-Proctor(BPI-Efficiency First, California-CBPCA). John serves as Program Coordinator and Instructor for California State University’s Continuing and Professional Education Department’s Green and Sustainable Building Certificate Program at Long Beach. A Creator of and Trainer for; Build It Green’s and Energy Efficiency Management, Inc’s. Certified Green Real Estate Professional Program® (CG-REP®); Trainer and GreenPoint Rater; Energy Efficient Mortgage (EEM) Trainer, CalCERTS, Inc. John’s company Energy Efficiency Management, Inc. is an approved Energy Upgrade California Contracting Company and Certified California HERS Rating and GreenPoint Rating Company. John is a graduate of University of California, Los Angeles.

      Parking is $3/day. You will need to purchase a daily parking permit and place on your dashboard. Daily parking permit machines are located in all the parking lots. Please bring cash in case the daily parking permit machine you're paying at doesn't provide a credit card option.

      Breakfast, lunch, and light refreshments throughout the day will be available. Please bring a reusable water bottle and/or coffee mug to reduce waste.
