EBC Solid Waste Management Program: Organics Diversion- Potential Solution to Capacity Issues in MA, July 26
Event Description
Organic waste, which makes up approximately thirty five percent of the total waste stream in Massachusetts, can be broken down to recover useful elements through natural and mechanical processes. In order to eliminate this organics waste stream from going to landfills and energy from waste facilities, in 2014, the Massachusetts Department of Environmental Protection implemented a statewide Organic Waste Ban.
This EBC Solid Waste Management Program will provide an update on the current multifaceted infrastructure established in response to the ban to allow for the diversion of organics in Massachusetts. Local leaders will address issues that include food waste collection and processing, end sites, and energy creation.
