Maine Indoor Air Quality Council, Answers to Home Ventilation Questions
Event Description

Join us on Thursday, June 4, 2020 for a free, one-hour session designed to answer all your unanswered questions about residential ventilation.

This presentation is designed to dispel the myths surrounding mechanical residential ventilation strategies by answering common questions asked by homeowners, builders, code officials, and others:

  • What is over-ventilation?  Is it bad?  Will it cost money or save money?
  • ERV or HRV, what’s the difference?
  • How much energy will ventilation use?
  • How tight is “too tight”?  Should I build “just loose enough”?
  • Is .35 ACH a healthy house? With no problems?
  • How much fresh air do we need?
  • Is distribution important?
  • Should I ventilate on really cold nights? During rain and snow? in the summer? When it’s hot and humid?
  • Aren’t ventilation systems hard to maintain?
  • What about one room or office space?

About the Maine Indoor Air Quality Council:

There are many pollutants indoors that can make people sick: mold and moisture, radon, asbestos, lead, PCBs, carbon monoxide, volatile organic compounds, as well as contaminants in private well water.  Because U.S. citizens spend an average of 90% of their time indoors, there is significant cause for concern for the health and safety of our population.  In fact, the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency indicates that the #1 environmental health threat in the U.S. today is indoor air pollution.

The Maine Indoor Air Quality Council (MIAQC) is an independent nonprofit organization dedicated to creating healthy, environmentally-sustainable indoor environments through education, communications, and advocacy.
