Local governments in the Carolinas are leading the way with sustainability in ways that go beyond individual buildings. Join this leadership panel showcasing how the cities of Greensboro and Charlotte are creating responsible, sustainable and specific plans for natural systems, energy, water, waste, transportation and many other factors that contribute to quality of life.

Learning Objectives

1. Describe how early leadership and policies around LEED buildings scales to community-wide impact through LEED for Cities and Communities.

2. Discuss the impacts and benefits to local government and residents when LEED strategies are applied at the building and city-wide scale.

3. Compare and contrast how local municipalities applied the LEED for Cities rating system to address their specific local priorities and challenges.

4. Showcase local success stories and lessons learned in the application of LEED and LEED for Cities as a pathway to resilient, sustainable, healthy and equitable buildings and communities.

With support from Bank of America, USGBC is pleased to announce a call for applications for the LEED for Cities Local Government Leadership Program: 2021 National Cohort. The leadership program convenes U.S. local governments (cities, towns and counties) committed to certifying in LEED for Cities and accelerating progress on climate change, social equity and resilience. Through this competitive program, local governments participate as a cohort, collaborating and exchanging ideas with peers as they get organized, set goals, collect data and apply for certification.
