Every organization and everyone can submit to Rate It Green's green building calendar! Simply click register, verify your email address, and create a username and password. You can then decide if you'd like to engage more fully as a community member, but you'll be able to post events.

We welcome praise and advice and even criticism but all posted content and ratings should be constructive in nature. For guidance on what constitutes suitable content on the Rate It Green site, please refer to the User Agreement and Site Rules.

Three Day Cordwood Masonry Course at Earthwood Building School, May 25 - 27, West Chazy, New York
Event Description
Morning sessions include cordwood theory, slide presentations, explanatory tours, and discussion of the three styles of cordwood construction: built-up corners (stackwall), roundhouses, and cordwood as infilling within a post-and-beam framework.
The kinds of wood and how long to dry them is covered, as well as various alternative mortar mixes. Installing doors and windows is detailed, as is cordwood masonry “special effects.” At Earthwood, students examine several different kinds of cordwood masonry buildings.
Afternoons are reserved for practical, hands-on work sessions at Ravenwood, 17 miles away, where a tour of the beautiful Ravenwood home is included. The project is cordwood infilling within a timber frame, a sauna, and shelter for an earth oven.
This workshop gives the student a strong introduction to this ancient building technique.
Textbook: Essential Cordwood Construction. This is a brand new textbook, to be published December 1st, 2018. Prices are for Single and Couple registrations. One textbook is given per couple.
