Every organization and everyone can submit to Rate It Green's green building calendar! Simply click register, verify your email address, and create a username and password. You can then decide if you'd like to engage more fully as a community member, but you'll be able to post events.
Please make sure to be respectful of the organizations and companies, and other Rate It Green members that make up our community. We welcome praise and advice and even criticism but all posted content and ratings should be constructive in nature. For guidance on what constitutes suitable content on the Rate It Green site, please refer to the User Agreement and Site Rules.
The opinions, comments, ratings and all content posted by member on the Rate It Green website are the comments and opinions of the individual members who posts them only and do not necessarily reflect the views or policies or policies of Rate It Green. USGBC MA Residential Green Building Committee Meeting: Sustainable Structural Concrete Innovations , 9/10, Boston, MA
Event Description
At this month's USGBC MA Residential Green Building Committee meeting, Mark Webster from SGH will present on Sustainable Structural Concrete Innovations and other Structural Components. Mark will illusrtate how concrete is a significant impact to our planets carbon emissions. Some say about 7% of man made greenhouse emissions. However, there are new ways to mitigate the use CO2 in the process of producing concrete and Mark will highlight these innovative design approaches to concrete design. Mark will extend his presentation beyond concrete and other sustainable structural components in residential design.
Here are a few items Mark will cover:
1 - Future of low carbon concrete.
2 - Cradle to grave or a circular approach to structural materials.
3 - The future of prefabrication and structural components in housing design.
4 - Integration of wood/steel/and concrete in multi-family housing.
The Residential Green Building Committee is focused on improving the housing stock of the Commonwealth by championing green building practices in our communities. Join on the second Monday of each month to be a part of the movement. The committee’s objectives are to work to raise the awareness of the benefits of residential green building and remodeling and to increase the number of projects registering for LEED for Homes through education and outreach, focusing on the following:
Hold across MA, Lunch and LEED, education sessions and tours on topics such as Zero Net Energy, Deep Energy Retrofits and REGREEN
Help the community understand and implement LEED for Homes and residential green building, remodeling and retrofits
Ensure that our target markets are aware of available green building tools and resources
Partner with other Green Building Programs
Establish a collaborative relationship with a professional and/or community organizations
Develop case studies and green residential building content for the USGBC MA website

Mark D. Webster has been designing, analyzing, and investigating concrete, steel, masonry, and wood structures for over twenty-five years. He is a founding member and current Vice-Chair of the Structural Engineering Institute’s Sustainability Committee. He led the development of the committee’s recently published technical report addressing the climate impacts of structural materials, "Structural Materials and Global Climate," and co-authored the committee’s “Sustainability Guidelines for the Structural Engineer.” He presently heads the Sustainability Committee’s Carbon Task Group.
