Webinar: Healthy Building, Healthy People: Engineering Well-Being in the Built Environment, November 18, 12 pm EDT
Event Description
The events of the last 24 months, including the overnight departure from our shared spaces, the rise to prominence for the Black Lives Matter movement, and rapid advancements in sustainable energy production have shifted the central focus of sustainable design from creating sustainable spaces to sustaining people.
Our metrics are shifting from watts per sq ft to wellness generated per user. Wellness can be sustainability’s Achilles heel or its springboard into new types of spaces and solutions. We must re-align our expectations for comfort, sustainability and efficiency with these new metrics for success. To integrate well-being into sustainable design we must alter policy, technology, form and function, cultural comfort norms and integrated project delivery. This presentation will explore how the intersection of health, equity and environmental sustainability creates a new project framework that is focused on the overall well-being of the users.
