Resilient Michigan Collaborative: Help your Coastal Community Thrive
Event Description

Did you know that Michigan has approximately 387 communities that border the coast? State regulatory authorities help to reduce impacts to the shoreline and state designated sensitive areas such as high-risk erosion areas, wetlands, critical dunes and environmental areas, yet local efforts are essential for a healthy coast.

The Michigan Coastal Management Program and the Land Information Access Association are working together to help coastal communities become more resilient to the dynamic conditions that come with living, working, and playing on the shores of the Great Lakes. Through resilient planning, a coastal community can prepare itself to absorb and adapt to the Great Lakes high and low water levels; coastal storms and floods; manage social and environmental changes; and build a better and more reliable local economy. The Resilient Michigan Collaborative is a great first step of introducing a community to the resilient principles through technical assistance and grant funding. During this webinar, the Michigan Coastal Management Program and Land Information Access Association will present an overview of the Resilient Michigan Collaborative and explain how your community can take advantage of this opportunity. This informational webinar provides coastal planners, zoning administrators, local officials, tribal governments, watershed groups, regional council of governments, and others interested in learning more about resilience principles an opportunity to learn more about funding and technical assistance opportunities available through the Resilient Michigan Collaborative.
