Free Webinar: Air Sealing and Insulating Existing Homes: Addressing Air Leakage and Thermal Performance in Ceilings Without Attics, March 28
Event Description
Testing your work is imperative to meeting or exceeding performance targets and ensuring a feedback loop is in place for continual process improvements. This four-hour course is designed to help participants identify and understand the options for improving the thermal performance of existing ceilings without attics, including vaulted and flat-roof assemblies. Instructor Gavin Healy of Balance Point Home Performance will present good, better, best options from minimal improvement to full interior and exterior retrofits. The session will cover trade-offs for different assemblies and the implications for building and maintaining those assemblies.
- Assess the existing ceiling thermal performance and locate the air barrier
- Evaluate the alignment of the thermal barrier with the air barrier
- Understanding the tradeoffs of sealing air leaks at finish surfaces
- Redesigning the assembly to reduce risks associated with condensation and wildfire
- Why and where vented assemblies make the most sense
- Taking advantage of other opportunities while the space is exposed
- Practical challenges in coordinating the work to achieve outcomes
In 2006, Gavin Healy co-founded (with Dan Perunko) Balance Point Home Performance a full service home performance analysis, retrofit, consulting, and training company. Gavin works on new construction design and hands on installation of enclosure, mechanical, plumbing, and indoor air quality components based on testable performance outcomes.
