Free Webinar: Passive House & the New Building Codes: What Municipalities Need to Know, October 17, 12pm
Event Description
Massachusetts has updated it's building codes with a strengthened Stretch Code and a new Specialized Opt-In Code that require lower energy demand and HERS scores and, for some buildings, Passive House certification.
In this Virtual Lunch & Learn session, we will provide a Passive House crash course for those new to the concept - and then discuss how it fits into the new building codes. Where is Passive House required? Where can you use it as a pathway to meeting code? Why should you choose it? What are the benefits Passive House certification provide? How do you meet the certification requirements? What are the difference between the Stretch Code and the Opt-In Code? Get your questions answered.
This session is ideal for city councilors, town meeting members, city planners, building inspectors, code officials, zoning boards, community advocates, and all those interested in the new codes and Passive House.
1. Learn the basics of Passive House certification and design, including requirements and common details of successful projects.
2. Learn what the energy requirements of the new energy code are and how they differ between the Stretch Code and the Specialized Opt-In Code.
3. Learn about the energy, health, and comfort benefits of Passive House certification, including measured energy performance data, indoor air quality improvements, and occupant comfort and climate resilience impacts.
4. Learn about incentives for All-Electric homes and Passive House buildings and how they can offset increases in building costs for achieving these new requirements.
5. Learn about the new Specialized Opt-In code, what it requires, how and when it can be implemented, and what it means for towns, including an update on what municipalities have already opted-in.
