Event Description
Remote monitoring and control are key to help farmers irrigate efficiently and maintain plant health. These systems are becoming more advanced AND more user friendly. Learn about the newly installed system on the Fresno State campus for wine grapes that includes 10 field valves connected to a base unit at the pump, soil sensors, a new VFD, and a flow meter. This class will discuss the connection between Overall Pump Efficiency, energy use, pump operating conditions of flow and pressure and will demonstrate the benefits of using a VFD. Additionally, the presenters will illustrate a distribution uniformity test and how this test is used to help with proper irrigation scheduling and to optimize irrigation efficiency.

William (Bill) Green grew up on stone fruit and vineyard farms near Fresno, California and graduated from California State University, Fresno in 1980 with a B.S. degree in Agricultural Plant Science. He was Field Operations Manager and General Manager for orchard and vineyard farming companies near Fresno for 22 years, overseeing all cultural practices and managing all farm operations for several thousand acres of fresh and dried fruit production. For the last 18 years, Bill has worked at the Center for Irrigation Technology (CIT) at California State University, Fresno as Education Manager for the Advanced Pumping Efficiency Program (APEP), the California Department of Water Resources (DWR) “Irrigation Tech Water Use Efficiency” seminar series, Chemigation/ Fertigation Groundwater Protection training for the California Department of Pesticide Regulation, the Fertilizer Research Education Program sponsored by the California Department of Food and Agriculture, and other water and energy related educational programs for “Irrigation Tech” workshops delivered to farmers at Fresno State. From 2005-2006 Bill was Chairman of the Irrigation Association’s Chemigation Common Interest Group. He also conducts research projects involving Water and Energy Use Efficiency for Irrigation systems on the 1,000 acre Fresno State Farm Laboratory. Bill still manages and farms the family raisin grape vineyard near Fresno.
Darryl Hadlich
Darryl Hadlich is a Turlock, CA native and a graduate from CSU Fresno, where he studied agricultural business. He has worked for WiseConn Engineering for over five years and is now the North Valley Key Accounts Manager. Darryl provides training and support on WiseConn's technology and irrigation management platform (DropControl) for some of the largest growers in California and the Pacific Northwest. He looks forward to working with growers on becoming more efficient with their water and be able to put their irrigation data to practical use.
