Real performance for real buildings: using performance-based procurement for new construction projects, 11/29, 1–2 pm Central, Webinar
Event Description
Every year new buildings are constructed that use more energy than expected. We want to break that trend and recently piloted an initiative in Minnesota known as Accelerate Performance.
Accelerate Performance is a performance-based procurement process that allows building owners to specify and include energy performance targets in project request for proposals. Design and construction teams are selected based on their ability to meet those targets, then held contractually accountable throughout building design and into occupancy.

Scott consults with architects and engineers on energy efficient building designs and systems. He also conducts applied research on technologies and processes through both field monitoring and extensive energy modeling. He has specialized in the study of ground source heat pumps and lighting and HVAC controls.
Scott is an active member of ASHRAE at both the local and national level; at the national level being an integral part of the Geothermal Energy technical committee. He's also a member of the Wisconsin Green Building Alliance.

He served as one of The USGBC board of directors and articulated, upheld the vision, values and mission of USGBC from January 2013 – December 2015. As a member of Gensler’s Program Management Organization, Ken served clients with multiple-site locations and development programs. His work ensured on-time, on-budget delivery of projects from site acquisition through construction and the certificate of occupancy.
Patrick Smith LEED AP
Research Fellow
Center for Sustainable Building Research, University of Minnesota
Patrick Smith is a Research Fellow at the Center for Sustainable Building Research at the University of Minnesota. He holds a Bachelor of Arts degree with majors in Music, Mathematics and Physics from Carleton College and both a Masters in Architecture and a Masters in Science: Sustainable Design from the College of Design at the University of Minnesota. Previous to his current appointment, Smith worked in precision tool manufacturing, at several architecture firms in the Twin Cities, as a graduate teaching assistant in the College of Design and as a graduate research assistant for the CSBR.
