Road to Zero: Summit, Green Building Tour of Ryerson Conservation Area, Riverwoods, Illinois
Event Description

Join Illinois Green Alliance for the last 2024 Road to Zero: Summit Tour series at the beautiful Ryerson Conservation Area in Riverwoods, IL, to explore the new Phius ZERO-certified education center.

The Lake County Forest Preserves will host this building tour of the Ryerson Education Center, the first Phius-certified government building in Lake County and the first with integrated bird-friendly glass. This 2,900-square-foot building has two classrooms, restrooms, a net zero interpretive exhibit area, and a 1,000-square-foot outdoor classroom. The tour will discuss the project background, design process, construction, and Phius certification. Tour groups will have the opportunity to walk the quarter-mile accessible trail loop through the Oak Hickory flatwoods of the Des Plaines River.

Inspiration for the design of the new Ryerson Education Center came from nature. The center is a resource for the residents of Lake County and the surrounding area to immerse themselves in environmental education. Join us to learn how this building can teach us about sustainability and sustainable design. A variety of school and public programs are available for all ages.
