Every organization and everyone can submit to Rate It Green's green building calendar! Simply click register, verify your email address, and create a username and password. You can then decide if you'd like to engage more fully as a community member, but you'll be able to post events.

Free Webinar: Thinking Differently About Adding Light to Outdoor Nighttime Environments, May 30, 9am-10:30am
Event Description
In this introductory class, we learn about a new approach to outdoor lighting that takes into account reducing light pollution and minimizing lighting to use only what's needed for the lighting goals. Increasingly aware of the impact of light at night, the lighting and design communities are thinking differently about outdoor lighting best practices. We will cover how these new approaches can translate into practical changes in the development of both our outdoor lighting standards and in lighting designs as we incorporate considerations about:
The objective of this course is that at the conclusion, participants will be able to:
- Introduction and safety message
- The value of outdoor environments
- Why we add light at night
- Issues around light at night
- Trends in outdoor lighting guidance
- Resources for outdoor lighting applications
Shirley Coyle is President of Cree Lighting Canada and has worked in leadership roles for lighting manufacturers for over thirty years. Lighting Certified since 2000, Shirley is a Past President of the Illuminating Engineering Society (IES), with 7 years on the IES Board of Directors. Shirley is active on several IES committees including the Roadway Lighting Committee, the Outdoor Nighttime Environments Committee, and the Street & Area Lighting Conference Committee. Shirley is also a Board member of CIE’s Canadian National Committee.
