Green Night Topic this Month: Village Hill Co-housing project
The concept of residential community called cohousing was imported to this country about 30 years ago from Denmark. With around 200 existing cohousing communities in the U.S. and many more in development, we take a look at a fifth community in Hampshire County due to break ground soon. The social and economic benefits are well recognized. How about the benefits to the environment? Mary Kraus of Kraus Fitch Architects, will lead us through a look at this newest cohousing community. We will learn more about how cohousing contributes effectively to both community life and the environment.
Presenter: Mary Kraus, AIA, LEED AP BD+C
Mary Kraus is a principal of Kraus Fitch Architects, Inc., a firm specializing in sustainable design and internationally recognized for its work with cohousing communities. Mary lives at Pioneer Valley Cohousing, the first cohousing community to be completed on the east coast (in 1994); her daily experience living in her ecologically-designed neighborhood lends inspiration to her work with sustainable development.
The Western Mass Green Consortium (WMGC) is an information and networking resource to promote collaboration within the green economy. We provide a rare opportunity for tradespeople, academics, non-profit and for-profit professionals, homeowners, students, job-seekers and others to network, share information and get to know each other in an informal setting.
WMGC's GREEN NIGHT monthly schedule is on 2nd Wednesdays/ This will be the last Green Night before the August break.
