2022 Symposium on Safe and Secure Schools, Cypress, Texas, October 28
Event Description
Protecting the physical security and supporting the emotional well being of students in schools has become a national imperative. Successfully addressing these issues requires an interdisciplinary and evidence-based dialogue founded in the needs of students, and must include better school design.
Every decision—from daylighting to acoustics—can help or hinder how safe and secure students, teachers, and staff feel in their school environment. School buildings are a necessary intervention point for districts, architects, builders, and product providers to address interrelated goals of improved security, health and wellbeing, comfort, and overall student performance.
At this symposium, leading experts from school districts, public safety, mental health, and school design, construction, and operations will highlight ways safe and comfortable school environments positively impact the health, wellbeing, and academic achievement of students. In addition, they will offer tools and strategies to design schools that perform better—while highlighting ways districts and designers can improve collaboration to advance these critical outcomes.
