Collaborative Efforts Towards Carbon Neutrality: AIA2030 + SE2050 + MEP2040, Online, March 25, 1 pm ET
Event Description
Greenbuild is very excited to present Greenbuild's first webinar of the year! AIA2030 + SE2050 + MEP2040: Collaborative Efforts Towards Carbon Neutrality will be taking place Tuesday, March 25th, 2025, at 1:00pm ET.
In 2006, Architecture 2030 issued a call to action with a challenge for the design community: get to carbon neutral by 2030. In response to this challenge, the AIA 2030 Commitment was launched in 2009 asking all members to sign on, report, and rise to the challenge of carbon reduction over time. After a decade of reporting focused primarily on operational carbon, in 2019 the SE 2050 Commitment was introduced to ignite structural engineers to meet embodied carbon reduction goals. In 2021 the MEP 2040 Challenge was announced, engaging an even broader wedge of the design community.
While change in the building industry is historically slow, the need for emission reductions is urgent and requires all hands-on deck. Powerful change comes from sharing knowledge to inspire action. In this session, HMC Architects, KPFF (Structural Engineer), and Glumac (MEP Engineer) share their firsthand experiences with the AIA 2030, SE 2050, and MEP 2040 reporting systems respectively. They’ll explore why they joined, the challenges they’ve faced, the impacts within their firms, and what they’ve learned along the way.
Are we on track to meet the challenge? With the best intentions from the onset, these reporting systems are intended to complement each other, yet the siloed approach to carbon neutrality can’t be overlooked. In sharing their stories, this session aims to foster dialogue, demystify the reporting process, and inspire greater participation in these climate action commitments. Working together we can break down the silos, encourage collaboration, and drive meaningful change towards a truly sustainable future.
Learning Objectives:
Molly Seto, (she/her/hers), Associate, KPFF
Jennifer Wehling, AIA, LEED AP BD+C, LEED AP ID+C, WELL AP (she/her/hers), Director of Sustainability, HMC Architects
