Event Description

Accessory Dwelling Units (ADU) are becoming an important form of housing in California but designing and building these units to comply with the Energy Code can be challenging. This course covers the prescriptive requirements that apply to new ADUs and discusses both minimum requirements and design options for compliance. 2022 Energy Code updates for ADU will be discussed.

• Determine if an ADU is considered an addition or a new residential building

• Consider envelope options for ADU additions and new ADU’s

• Describe the renewable energy requirements for ADU additions and new ADU’s (PV / Battery)

• Identify the HVAC/Domestic hot water (DHW) equipment and HERS verification measures options that provide ADU design flexibility and how utility source (natural gas versus all-electric) impacts those choices

• Builder-developer

• Contractor

• Architects

• Engineers

• Consultants

• City officials
