Every organization and everyone can submit to Rate It Green's green building calendar! Simply click register, verify your email address, and create a username and password. You can then decide if you'd like to engage more fully as a community member, but you'll be able to post events.
Please make sure to be respectful of the organizations and companies, and other Rate It Green members that make up our community. We welcome praise and advice and even criticism but all posted content and ratings should be constructive in nature. For guidance on what constitutes suitable content on the Rate It Green site, please refer to the User Agreement and Site Rules.
The opinions, comments, ratings and all content posted by member on the Rate It Green website are the comments and opinions of the individual members who posts them only and do not necessarily reflect the views or policies or policies of Rate It Green. Rate It Green Team Members will monitor posted content for unsuitable content, but we also ask for the participation of community members in helping to keep the site a comfortable and open public forum of ideas. Green Building Tour at Hunter Saw, Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, May 7, 4 - 5:30 pm
Event Description
The Hunter Saw & Machine Company holds a significant place in the industrial history of Pittsburgh and Lawrenceville. Established at the turn of the 19th century, the company specialized in producing high-quality saw blades and other cutting tools for the steel industry. Hunter Saw was part of an industrial hub that flourished along the Allegheny River during the late 1800s, supporting a vibrant immigrant population. As the steel industry experienced a decline in the mid-20th century, many manufacturing facilities, including Hunter Saw, faced closures or relocations.
A decade ago, Doug and Liza Cruze, co-owners of Cruze Architects and Cruze Construction, embarked on the transformation of the condemned Hunter Saw building. Drawn by its inherent potential, they meticulously renovated the space over the years, showcasing their expertise in converting historic buildings into modern gems even within tight budgets.
Join GBA and Hunter Saw owners & architects Doug and Liza Cruze on a tour of this historic building. Tour attendees will learn about strategies and techniques used while giving this old building new life such as material reuse, rainwater collection, and destratification. Also hear about Doug and Liza's trials and successes during their process of seeking historic tax credits with the help of Clio Consulting.
