Green Building Tour | Central Connecticut State University Library Addition: Reducing Embodied Carbon
Event Description

Join Build Green CT to hear from the CCSU Elihu Burritt Library Addition owner, design team, contractor, and manufacturer about the benefits of cross-laminated-timber (CLT) structure.

The design team has prepared a life cycle assessment of a steel and concrete structure against the completed CLT structure to demonstrate a reduction in Embodied Carbon. The team will also discuss some practical tips when utilizing CLT structures in your project.

Take advantage of this opportunity to see the completed building project firsthand, learn about embodied carbon and why it impacts climate change, and ask questions about CLT specification and design and more from the project team leaders themselves!

Learning Objectives -

  • Demonstrate the embodied carbon-reducing benefits of CLT structure after investigating a life cycle assessment of CLT structure versus steel & concrete structure with project architects, owners, and designers.

  • Implement suggestions & strategies introduced by the program presenters when constructing, implementing, or otherwise interacting with CLT structures on a project.

  • Build upon industry standards & practices to create more sustainable building practices by incorporating opportunities & challenges of designing with CLT from the project participants.

  • Share insights regarding CLT structure as a more sustainable alternative to steel structure with colleagues, collaborators, and others in the field.

  • Prepare for future projects which incorporate CLT structure, using advice & insights from project architects & designers of the CCSU library extension.
