Landscapes for Living: A Forum on Eco-Friendly Gardening and Lawn Care, Saturday, May 13, 10:30 am - 3 pm, Wellesley
Event Description
Whether you're a beginning gardener or a long-time green thumb, you'll find inspiration and information as we explore earth-friendly ways to improve and preserve the beauty, health and habitat of our town, one backyard at a time. Landscapes for Living: A Forum on Eco-Friendly Gardening and Lawn Care is an all-day sustainability symposium featuring nationally known experts Dr. Doug Tallamy speaking on gardening with native plants, and Chip Osborne of Osborne Organics speaking on natural turf management. Workshops will include a how-to on backyard composting; gardening with ornamental edibles; and landscaping for bees and pollinators. A complimentary light lunch will be provided. Join us for a day that will enlighten and energize your approach to gardening and lawn care!
This event is FREE and open to the public. As space is limited, advance registration is encouraged. All registrants will be entered to win prizes including a signed copy of "The Living Landscape" by Doug Tallamy, a professionally-designed native flower planter for your home, a gift certificate from the New England Wildflower Society and more.
Wellesley Women Artisans will also present the exhibit “Art in Nature,” with works by 17 local artists. The public is invited for refreshments and to meet the artists at a reception in the Wakelin Room on Saturday, May 6 from 3:30-5:00 p.m.
Chip Osborne has developed the turf management program for the playing fields and parks in Wellesley. He is the country’s leading expert on natural and sustainable lawn care and assists the National Park Service (and many others) in organic turf.
