Every organization and everyone can submit to Rate It Green's green building calendar! Simply click register, verify your email address, and create a username and password. You can then decide if you'd like to engage more fully as a community member, but you'll be able to post events.
Please make sure to be respectful of the organizations and companies, and other Rate It Green members that make up our community. We welcome praise and advice and even criticism but all posted content and ratings should be constructive in nature. For guidance on what constitutes suitable content on the Rate It Green site, please refer to the User Agreement and Site Rules.
The opinions, comments, ratings and all content posted by member on the Rate It Green website are the comments and opinions of the individual members who posts them only and do not necessarily reflect the views or policies or policies of Rate It Green. "Right Sized" Net Zero House, May 19, 11am - 1:00pm, Higganum, CT
Event Description
YOU’RE INVITED
Take an open wall, open house tour of a great net zero home we’re in the midst of building in Higganum. The home achieves high performance and affordability by asking, “how much is enough” and responding with a simple, right sized design that embraces the sun and opens out to its amazing location. You’ll see the features that make this possible and hear the story behind the design, including ideas about what makes any home great and how that can be accomplished. Tours and a talk will take place at the home under construction in Mansfield at 11AM and 1:00PM on Saturday July 8.
WHAT YOU’LL SEE
• How to construct the super insulated and air sealed building “envelope”
• High performance “net gain” triple glazed european windows and where to locate them
• Small and efficient heating and cooling system
• Constant fresh air system with heat recovery (it captures heat that normal ventilation loses)
• How simple forms and modest space feels big and looks good
WHAT YOU’LL LEARN
• Strategies to design and build a high performance home
• How to set the stage to make smart choices when planning a new home (or remodeling an existing one)
• How to implement today’s most advanced building practices without adding complexity
• Why better comfort, health, durability, and performance need to be baked in, not pasted on
• Why this matters to the world and how our homes shape the future
WHO YOU’LL MEET
• Jamie Wolf, Wolfworks designer will explain how it all came together
• Janet Downey, Wolfworks builder will explain how its all put together
• The homeowners will share what they are creating and the experience of planning this project
