Free Webinar: Fundamentals of Lighting (IES) - Mod 2: Electric Light Sources- Part of a 10 part lighting series, September 25, 5:30-8 pm
Event Description
The newly revised IES (Illuminating Engineering Society) Fundamentals of Lighting series is a great technical introduction for those entering lighting and related fields, including designers, salespeople, energy specialists, contractors, and specifiers. This ten-part webinar series is held on consecutive Wednesday evenings this fall.
Each approximately two-and-a-half-hour module covers a different lighting topic and is taught by an industry professional. Topics include properties of light; lighting metrics; light and color; daylighting; lighting equipment including light sources, fixtures and controls; calculations; codes and standards; regulating lighting; and interior and exterior lighting applications. The ten classes are offered as a series but may be taken individually.
In Module 2: Electric Light Sources we explain the types of legacy light sources, their operation and their characteristics. We briefly cover some specialized light sources, then discuss equipment and devices necessary to make various light sources work. We then look at solid state light sources (LEDs), their components, how they are manufactured and packaged and how they produce various colors and distributions of light.
The objective of this course is that at the conclusion, participants will be able to:

Sima Tawakoli received a Masters degree in Architecture and Urban Design and a Masters in Design and Industry. She is currently is working as an application designer at 16500. In the past, she has worked as an architect and designer at various design and architectural firms. For her, lighting design is another creative process. “It’s like painting—but space becomes the canvas on which we are designing!”. Sima is the past President of IES San Francisco Section and she has taught various IES classes over the past few years. She is also an active member of IALD, IES and OWA.
