Virtual Tour: Tallest Infill Passive House in the World, June 4, 12:30 pm EDT
Event Description
Join NESEA for this virtual Pro Tour of Flow Chelsea, the largest mixed-use Passive House project in midtown Manhattan and the tallest infill Passive House building in the world. This 24-story building includes 55 residential apartments, of which 17 are affordable, as well as a commercial retail space on the ground floor. The project was designed to reduce energy consumption and per capita carbon emissions while withstanding increased risks and impacts from future climate change.
Speakers will showcase the techniques used to achieve a high standard of affordable comfort, including interior environmental comfort, acoustic comfort, and improved resident productivity and health. The construction includes: an airtight building envelope that allows residents to save on energy costs, triple-glazed windows to reduce the ecological footprint while minimizing the noise of this bustling neighborhood, LED lighting, emissions-reducing appliances, electric heat pumps for in-unit washer/dryers, and airy living spaces filled with light.
This project was recognized as a winner in NYSERDA’s Buildings of Excellence competition. The Buildings of Excellence Competition, administered by the New York State Energy Research and Development Authority (NYSERDA), was launched in March 2019 and has awarded over $31 million to over three dozen exemplary new construction projects.
