On June 22, Johnson Controls announced the opening of its Asia-Pacific headquarters in Shanghai, China. The building is 44,300-square meters and is located in Shanghai’s Chang’ning district. This building is the first in China to earn several top global efficiency awards, some of which include: IFC-World Bank Group’s Excellence in Design for Greater Efficiencies Certification, U.S. Green Building Council’s Leadership in Energy and Environment Design platinum Certification, and the China Green Building Design Label 3 Star Certification. The sustainable design of the building includes a Central Plant, renewable energy, and intelligent lighting, along with other technologies that expect to generate 44 percent savings in overall energy consumption in comparison to the local market standard. As well as savings in overall energy, the building should also reduce water usage by 42 percent and embodied energy in material by 21 percent. The building’s hybrid and electric vehicle charging stations also allow employees to travel with a reduced lower carbon footprint. Chairman and CEO of Johnson Controls says, “The Asia-Pacific region, particularly China is Johnson Controls’ most important growth market, and we are confident that the launch of our Asia-Pacific headquarters will enable us to better facilitate China’s rapid development. Our partnerships and leading technologies, along with our visionary and intelligent solutions, will enable us to advance sustainable development.”
