Deep Energy Retrofit Workshop - Saturday, November 5, 10 am - 12 pm, Boston Building Resources, Boston
Event Description
Deep Energy Retrofits
Saturday, November 5, 2016
10 am - 12 pm
Boston Building Resources
100 Terrace Street Roxbury Crossing, Boston
A deep energy retrofit (DER) is a whole-building analysis and construction process that uses integrative design to achieve much larger energy savings than conventional energy retrofits. This presentation will cover the basic requirements of the Mass Save DER program as well as a review of some recent deep energy retrofit projects. We will work through the financial incentive structure that can be expected for a typical project and how to budget over the long term. We'll also discuss options for a partial DER that treats parts of the project immediately and leaves other areas prepared for future retrofitting when budgets are other conditions permit.
Brian Butler is a contractor for Good Energy Construction Corp. Good Energy and Brian's previous company, Boston Green Building, have overseen the completion of dozens of DER projects for Mass Save. Brian holds a Massachusetts construction supervisor’s license and is currently working on a web startup called EnerScore that rates the energy performance of homes for online real estate listings.
Bill Womendorf is a Building Enclosure Consultant at Simpson Gumpertz and Heger, Inc. Bill focuses on the full systems approach to building design and looks for creative solutions for achieving greater efficiency. Recently, Bill has been researching new ways to increase the affordability of net-zero buildings. Bill is a graduate of the University of Massachusetts Amherst’s Building Science and Construction Technology program.
