Free Webinar: PV + Batteries: Integrating Storage with Grid-Tied PV Systems, October 21
Event Description

Recent developments with building codes, safety requirements, utility rate structures, state incentives, and federal tax credit legislation have led to ever-greater installations of energy storage systems, often paired with grid-tied solar electric systems. This course will cover developing battery technologies and how batteries in Energy Storage Systems (ESS) of various sizes are paired with Solar Energy Systems (SES). The instructors will discuss battery technologies and the market, the design criteria and system components for on-grid systems, as well as the financial value and regulatory landscape. The class will also outline the various ways batteries can store solar electricity with customer sited systems and deliver benefits and ancillary services to the utility grid.

Portions of the class are focused at an introductory level, with practical examples for anyone who wants to learn more about solar with batteries. Other portions provide a more advanced class level for anyone who wants to learn more in-depth about different battery technologies, and how stationary or vehicle-based energy storage systems can best be paired with a photovoltaic (PV) system.

The objective of this course is that at the conclusion, participants will be able to:

  • Recognize growing battery components paired PV grid-tied systems including design discussions with criteria, requirements, alternatives, and options
  • Discuss specific On Grid requirements with equipment and system components
  • Summarize the state of battery technology and future projections
  • Describe the current regulatory situation (concerning batteries) and future projections
  • Access tools for financial assessment and bid preparation
