About Me

The R.W. Kern Center shows Hampshire College’s values in practice and ideas in action. It is a certified Living Building: generating its own electricity, collecting its own water, and built of non-toxic, local, and sustainable materials. The building is a major piece of Hampshire’s initiative to make campus operations carbon neutral, including a plan to go 100% renewable for campus electricity. The Kern Center also serves as a living laboratory where students and the public study its systems and sustainability performance.
