Deconstruction + Reuse Conference '21, Building Circularity for Resilient Communities, October 19-21, Virtual
Event Description
As the world faces increasing extraction of finite resources, high unemployment, and the ever-growing climate crisis, it is clearer than ever that our linear “take, make, and waste” model of consumption is failing our environmental and economic future. This past year has also highlighted more than ever the importance of our communities, as we have supported and relied on our neighbors, and worked hard to keep each other safe.
This year, Build Reuse’s Deconstruction + Reuse Conference will look at how we can make reuse a priority as we rebuild better. What has been successful and what still needs to be accomplished?
Deconstruction + Reuse 2021 programming will explore:
Measuring reuse data
Material reuse in relationship to equity, inclusion, and environmental health and justice
Material reuse in the commercial sector
Policy as drivers of reuse and circular economy (city, state, national, and international level)
Architects as drivers of reuse
Partnerships to drive reuse
Design for deconstruction
Inspiring reuse projects (art, renovation, adaptive reuse)
Reuse retail (innovation, programing, marketing, online sales, entrepreneurship)
Deconstruction projects (new techniques, scale, bidding, blight reduction, job training)
Materials appraisals
Innovation in tech and reuse
Advancing the circular economy
Solution Sessions:
One of the highlights of Deconstruction + Reuse 2019 was “Solution Sessions,” where small groups generated action-oriented ideas on topics of importance. We’ve selected five areas that our community commonly identifies as needing solutions that can help promote a more circular building ethic.
About Build Reuse:
Build Reuse is a registered 501(c)3 nonprofit established in 1994 that encourages the recovery, reuse, and recycling of building materials in the United States. Build Reuse is also committed to developing social investment and workforce development programs in the deconstruction industry. Build Reuse has a vision to transform our communities by creating a building industry in which used and excess materials become an asset and waste is no longer acceptable.
