All About Heat Pumps
Rate It Green Members and Friends -
If you feel that recent news has been all about heat pumps, I agree! It seems there's a growing push to educate consumers and increase demand, as part of support for wider electrification and decarbonization efforts. Why are heat pumps so exciting? As you may already know, heat pumps are 300-400% efficient, as they move energy instead of generating it, and without onsite fossil fuel combustion. The numbers seem almost unreal. Reframing Perspective: What Can "Positive" (Nature Positive) Look Like?
Rate It Green Members and Friends -
There are so many pressing crises, it can be overwhelming to decide what to do first or next. At a time when we need to take immediate and drastic action to mitigate the worst climate change consequences, some of which have already arrived, how is it possible that there are ongoing and disastrous wars and famine, extreme weather crises, raging fires, disease, and areas that are literally becoming uninhabitable for human life, among other global challenges which are hard to fully i… Show more

Strategies for Staying Cool: Air Sealing and Insulation

It’s quite an understatement to say it’s been hot this summer. Playfully, and yet deadly seriously, Vox declared that this scorching summer might just "be one the coolest summers of the rest of your life." Scientists at the European Union's Copernicus Climate Change Service estimate current summer temperatures as not only the hottest since modern record keeping began, but possibly in the last 120,000 years. Sustaining Solar Industry Growth - We need to Support and Create Forward-Thinking Policies
What can be done to sustain solar industry growth? We need to focus on the political and regulatory environments of the solar industry. One significant answer is in forward-looking policies, existing or new, that create incentives and limit obstacles or restrictions for people to reduce their contribution to global warming and expand the use of local renewable sources.
Environment America reports that more than 21,300 megawatts of cumulative solar electric capacity was installed towards the end of the first quarter of this year. This is eno… Show more

This September, after three years of negotiations, the United Nations adopted a slate of 17 Sustainability Goals (with 169 specific targets for action), also known as Agenda 2030, to replace the Millennium Development Goals from 2000. The goals include eradicating extreme poverty, fighting against inequality and injustice, and addressing climate change.
As evidenced in the preamble of Agenda 2030, the goals are ambitious: "We are resolved to free the human race from the tyranny of poverty and want and to heal and secu… Show more
The Real Fallout from the Volkswagen Disaster: TRUST (What we need to transition to a green economy)
Reports are emerging that Volkswagen suppliers and employees had been raising concerns about emissions “evasion” as far back as 2008 and 2011. In fast, an emissions testing software "defeat device” in the form of a secret code subroutine arrived in the US with 2009 “clean diesel” VW models and has been helping the cars cheat and defeat US emissions standards ever since.
In 2008, Martin Winterkorn, Volkswagen’s CEO, stated that he wanted "to take [his] group to the very top… Show more
10 Years Later: New Orleans Deserves a Real, Fair, and Green - and Successful - Recovery
Ten years after Hurricane Katrina devastated parts of New Orleans, it would be nice and appropriate to be hearing more and summary success stories. But something doesn’t feel or sound quite right. A review of some recent articles and news suggests that some communities and people have benefitted far more than others from disaster relief efforts and redevelopment, and that the Lower Ninth Ward and its inhabitants, and some other predominantly black neighborhoods, were somehow largely or at least partially left behind. Energy Efficiency Progress: What We’ve Gained in 35 Years and Where We Are Going
I posted recently in a discussion filed under Studies/Surveys after reading an article about a study analyzing what has happened in the sector of energy efficiency in the past 35 years called, “Energy Efficiency in the United States: 35 Years and Counting by the American Council for an Energy-Efficient Economy”.
The first thought that comes to mind is, where did that number thirty five come from? Who determined when energy efficiency suddenly became a concern of the modern world? After a little research I found that the phrase, … Show more
